The twelfth in a series of conversations on “How can we make a social impact?” with the topic “Exploring the Harmony of Science and Religion” presented by Martijn Rep.

Science and Religion may be conceived as collective human enterprises that build systems of knowledge – mental models of reality – and apply that knowledge to the advancement of civilization. Both are evolving but also contain timeless principles. Historically, these two enterprises became separated and their relationship has not always been harmonious. However, it has been proposed that a harmonious relationship between the two is required for the advancement of civilization. We will explore why that would be so, and how this relates to social action.

The short presentation will be a starting point for a meaningful conversation and explore how service to humanity and planet can be a source and incubator for greater joy. The following questions will be explored:

  • Why and how is harmony of science and religion important for social impact?
  • What is social impact in the context of science and religion?
