Floorplan KauwgomballenfabriekThe building of Social Impact Factory Amsterdam is part of the larger Kauwgomballenfabriek complex. The name comes from the very first chewing gum factory in the Netherlands. Brothers Jules and Robert Markus started the factory in 1948 under the name ‘Maple Leaf’. The name was a tribute to the Canadians who not only liberated the Netherlands but also introduced chewing gum to the country. The brothers saw great potential in the concept of chewing gum. Well-known brands like Sportlife produced their gum in this factory. After many successful years, the factory closed in 2003, and the entire area was transformed in 2008. Since autumn 2023, Social Impact Factory has been located in the former lab in Amsterdam. We couldn’t have wished for a more fitting history for the Kauwgomballenfabriek!
