This annual event is dedicated to commemorating the history of transatlantic slavery and celebrating its abolition. The Keti Koti Utrecht Foundation (also known as Keti Koti 030) organizes impressive and connecting programs throughout the city around these dates. To ensure all these events and campaigns run smoothly, the project team settles in at Social Impact Factory Vredenburg (almost) every week. We spoke with them about their mission, their team dynamics, and why SIF is the perfect home base for them.A shared story for all of UtrechtThe mission of Keti Koti Utrecht is as clear as it is urgent: to increase awareness of Utrecht’s transatlantic slavery past, so that it becomes a story for all of us. By connecting residents, past, and present, the foundation strives for a city where we learn from history, commemorate ancestors, and face the future as equals. “This creates space and connection for different identities in the city,” the team explains. “Connection between generations, connection with the city, and connection with culture.”Coffee, brainstorms, and updatesWhat does a weekly project team meeting look like? “It varies a lot, haha!” Laughing, the team talks about their regular meetings at Vredenburg, where Maureen (project leader), Rashida (program), Kobus (production), Jelany (social media), and the communications department come together.During these meetings, they review the status of the entire project. Which artists have been officially booked? What can be shared on social media? While enjoying a good cup of coffee and the occasional treat, they brainstorm campaigns, ask for support, and keep each other sharp and up to date.Choosing SIF VredenburgWhen the team was looking for a suitable meeting location, the choice for SIF Vredenburg was quickly made. “We just think SIF is a really chill location. Super local. Everyone is very welcoming and always friendly and fun. The coffee, tea, and water are good and easy to grab yourself, and we just like the atmosphere.”The interior design and unique atmosphere of SIF directly contribute to the team’s energy and productivity. “It ensures that we have a nice atmosphere among ourselves as well. We don’t have to wait for service and aren’t disturbed by the busyness of a regular catering establishment. At the same time, it ensures we don’t have a super formal atmosphere, because we’re not sitting in a boring, dry meeting location.”When Keti Koti Utrecht has to describe the location and service of SIF in three words, they don’t have to think long: Welcoming, cozy, and accessible.Curious about the Keti Koti Utrecht program on June 30 and July 1?
